World’s habits to use toilet. A breviary for tourists.

The spirit of adaption, curiosity and a strong practical sense: those are characteristics of a tourist, who often during his or her movements forced to face with the cultures different from his own. But what is happening when the differences meet in a very intimate aspects of everyday life? A lot of Italians being abroad have had an experience of absence of a bidet in a bathroom.

But there are much more odds in using a bathroom, and they represent a controversial point in comparison of diverse cultures. From heated toilet seats covers to various positions taken, passing to numerous of other particularities in using of the most secret room in a house. The necessity to relieve natural functions unite all the manhood, the way we do it demonstrates how different we are.

An occidental traveler often remains confused, for example, being in front of classic squat toilet. Generally, this is a hole surrounded by ceramic plate where to put your feet and take a typical squat position. These characteristics often disliked by those who prefer the comfort and relax offered by classic ceramic toilets. Nevertheless, this model is popular in South America and Arabic countries, and considered as a particularly hygienic variant to relieve oneself: it prevents any contact with the surface and facilitate taking position that we normally take in nature to evacuate. Some studies demonstrate that leg curl during this very delicate moment, in fact helps to relax sphincter and thus, make less efforts. Disadvantages? Certainly it does not permit to embrace the moment and leaf through the magazine.

If a bidet is only Italian privilege and some of other European countries (although, now it is spreading), the tourist may find himself confused at the presence of mysterious tube just near the toilet. This is a bum gun bidet sprayer, connected to the water tap, it gives a little water spray, acting like a hybrid of a toilet paper and a bidet. This device is commonly used in many countries like Tunis, Thailand, and permits to avoid paper use and a risk of an obstruction in a tube.

An interesting approach to this delicate question is in most of Asiatic counties, where people don’t care of the toilet expenses. In the top of the list of the countries with the most equipped and expensive toilets is Japan. Here a toilet even in a public place is a proper temple of hygiene and comfort. Technology plays a main role in determination of functionality of Japanese toilets, where toilet seats are self cleaned and heated to the temperature of human body, with stereo and video systems installed for entertainment and many of other utilities that is difficult to find in any other country in the World.

Those ones who afraid of non-finding a toilet in case of emergency, would love countries like Panama, New Guinea and also nearest Swiss Alps. In most of natural places and even in the back of beyond someone have thought of natural human needs, building small cabins of ecological materials which help to protect the privacy and guarantee a personal hygiene in respect to the nature. From the other side of all that efforts, a lot of nations are disable to fight against sanitation emergency and disaster.

According to the Times, about 40 millions of people have no access to the toilets and sanitary sewer systems: great numbers, when thinking that this conditions are the main cause of diffusion of numerous diseases .

All that differences, and a lot of others, remain hidden in a privacy of a toilet, demonstrating a unique approach of every nation to the question of satisfaction of a basic need of every man, and not only. It is not difficult among frivolous and funny facts find an aspect that is more urgent nowadays: water and energy consumption, hygiene and sanitation disaster, wastes of recourses. And what if more equitable and ethical way of life will begin from new daily habits, even in a toilet?
